Is There Ongoing Support/After Treatment Available?

Table of Contents

Many people think of recovery as a place where you arrive, but it’s better if you consider it a journey, as it’s ongoing. Thankfully, there’s support during and after treatment. As you walk this path in life, having a solid support system increases your chances of recovery.

Insight in the Recovery Process

If you’re new to recovery, you may not understand the importance of building your support network. The mentality that going to rehab will fix you is a myth, as it’s just one step in the journey of many miles.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could seek treatment for 30 days and return healed? The most challenging work is done outside the rehabilitation center, and you need strong support for ongoing success.

When you consider that you must make lifestyle changes, it can be quite overwhelming. Once you realize you need help, going for hours or even days without your drug of choice may seem impossible. However, going to rehab will teach you that you must take things one day at a time.

Your recovery process is ongoing, and you mustn’t get too overwhelmed by the big picture. Rather, take things in small, manageable steps. You will spend the rest of your life working to be a better person, whether you have an addiction or not. Drugs or alcohol only make things a little more complicated.

Continuing Support Encourages Personal Growth

As you go through the recovery process, healing should be your mission. Ongoing support is imperative. There will be times when you think you’ve mastered this addiction, and there will be times when it’s all you can do to stay sober.

Thankfully, having a strong support system with people around you can make those bad days bearable. These folks are here to reinforce your recovery and ensure you don’t lose your sobriety in a moment of weakness. Remember, addiction is a disease, and it’s something that you will need to manage for the rest of your life, so why not have the best folks in your corner pulling for you?

Some folks do well throughout the treatment process, and others struggle. However, statistics show that those who engage in their treatment and follow up with outpatient care have a better chance of sobriety.

Don’t ever think you can get too much help, as there’s no such thing. When you recover from addiction or any other type of sickness, you need all the help and support you can find. Reputable treatment centers have programs that help you post-discharge.

Things to Help with Ongoing Recovery

Think of your time in recovery as an investment in your future. When you invest in working in your career, the dividends pay off in time. The same theory can be used for this time in your life.

You’re investing in yourself, your sobriety, and your chance of a happy, healthy life. You may not reap the benefits now, but your return on your investment is astounding. Here are some things you can do to help you ensure your sobriety after treatment:

•Find AA or NA meetings in your area that use the 12-step program.
•Create a sober support system that you can call anytime, day or night.
•Find other allies in the recovery process who’ve been down the same path.
•Turn to your Higher Power or faith to draw encouragement.
•Join a gym or get involved in an exercise program, as it’s proven beneficial.

Have you ever been to a football game? The fans cheer on the players, and the players draw strength from the positive energy. It gets their adrenaline pumping when there’s little time on the clock, and they need to make a touchdown.

Your post-treatment support is much like this team. You will use their morale and positive energy to tackle whatever problem you face. There’s strength in numbers, and you need these people to survive and thrive.
